Our director Maria has been invited as a guest speaker to this fantastic ideas sharing event in the Science and Media Museum in Bradford, 16th January. She’ll be giving a talk about the formation and journey of the choir, especially the positive culture we seek to create. The choir will be giving a short performance. It’s going to be an interesting day, our first performance in a cinema! For further info about TEDx and other events we have coming up please click here.
On Sunday 16th December we had a truly amazing Christmas concert in Saltaire. All the hard work over weeks of rehearsals paid off, as the choir gave a stunning performance of Christmas classics and choir favourites. The audience was packed and a great time was had by all. Thank you to everyone who came and supported our concert in aid of Bradford North Foodbank.
100 Choir Members
We are delighted that in our first month over 100 people have joined the choir. We are so excited about this staggering response. It is absolutely fantastic that so many people want to get involved and sing with us. We are now nearly at full capacity for choir members and have started a waiting list. How exciting that so many people have come together behind our vision for a fun, creative and excellent contemporary choir. We have had an amazing start to the journey and look forward to what’s next!
BBC Music Day
Friday 5th October was the annual BBC Music Day. This year there was a focus on the work of choirs across the UK, so we were invited to go on the BBC Radio Leeds Breakfast show and talk to Richard Stead about the launch of our choir. A group of our choir members and our Director Maria Mullin went live on air bright and early. We sang live on the radio and got to talk about the first few exciting weeks of our new choir. It was fantastic to play a part in this national BBC event. We are looking forward to working with BBC Radio Leeds again later in the year on further events.
Our rehearsal venue, Victoria Hall, Victoria Road, Saltaire, West Yorkshire, BD18 3JS
Built in 1871 by Sir Titus Salt, as a ‘centre for recreation, culture and learning’ for the villagers of Saltaire; still used in this way today. A fantastic home for our choir.
On Tuesday 11th September we had a fantastic launch night rehearsal, with a big turn out. We started the evening with some fun and relaxed vocal warmups, followed by working on our first song together. There was great excitement in the air and many attendees have gone on to join us as founding choir members. Subsequent Tuesday evening rehearsals have built on this excellent start and the sound of the choir is now developing really well.
